Freedoms of Animal Welfare

The Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare

Management: Cows

Nutrition:     Concentrate Feeds

Nutrition:    Nutraceuticals

When it comes to animal welfare, the Five Freedoms provide essential guidelines to ensure the well-being of cows. At DairyLac, we prioritize the welfare of our cows by adhering to these freedoms. Which not only promote their health but also contribute to their overall happiness.

Freedom from Hunger & Thirst:

Our cows receive a well-balanced diet tailored to their specific requirements to meet their nutritional needs. We maintain regular feeding intervals and ensure constant access to clean, fresh water to prevent hunger and thirst.

Freedom from Discomfort:

We create a comfortable and clean environment for our cows. We provide ample space for our cows to lie down, rest, and move around without restrictions. We ensure that their living conditions are free from sharp edges, rough surfaces, and any other factors that may cause discomfort or injury.

Freedom from Pain, Injury & Disease:

The health of our cows is of utmost importance. Our veterinarians provide routine check-ups and timely treatment, ensuring that our cows are free from pain, injury, and disease. We perform procedures like dehorning or castration on our cows with proper anesthesia and pain relief to minimize any potential discomfort.

Freedom to Express Normal Behavior:

Cows are social animals with natural behaviors. At DairyLac, we enable our cows to express their natural instincts. By providing opportunities for grazing, rumination, free movement, and socialization with other cows. They also have access to the outdoors, allowing them to engage in activities like scratching, grooming, and exploring.

Freedom from Fear & Distress:

We prioritize the emotional well-being of our cows by creating a safe and stress-free environment. Our staff is trained in proper handling techniques to ensure that cows feel secure and calm. We strictly avoid any rough handling or inappropriate use of tools that may cause fear or distress.

The Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare are integral to our approach at DairyLac. By following these principles, our aim is to provide our cows with the highest standard of care, ensuring their health, contentment, and fulfillment.
